fridge freezer repair zanussi ZX57/3W?

My frost free fridge/freezer is freezing excessively in the freezer
compartment and not cooling the fridge section. I have replaced the thermo but it was freezing food in the fridge section.(then it stopped cooling}.thermo set at 2 degrees.
There are two semi conductor type stats in the freezer section
behind the panel, one marked 40degrees and one marked 10degrees could one of these be causing the trouble.?
I defrosted the unit and restarted it and it seems to be working
at the moment. It is down to 5degrees c at the moment and
dropping. The timer works and the heater comes on ok

Thank you for your answer to my question.re., zanussi fridge
/freezer. Since then the fault happened again with the fridge
not cooling and over frosting in the freezer section.
I noticed the upper part of the seal at the top of the freezer
was perished or torn. The plastic material seemed to come away very easily, poor manufacture and as you know plastic
suffers from brittle syndrome after some time in use. This unit
was only six years old and by consumer standards should last
a lot longer !!. This fault ties in with your answer with regard
to the over freezing. Thank you very much for your help in
this matter. Archie Thornton. Glasgow.

Defrosting the freezer probably did it. Some Zanussi models experience those symptoms when if the vent that circulates cool air from the freezer up to the fridge gets frozen shut, or the coils behind the freezer panel get too much ice built up to enable coolant to flow up to the fridge. Both of these can be caused by accidentally leaving the freezer door open for a period of time.
