What should I do if my brand-new hair straightener gives off a smell?

I just recently bought a new Conair hair straightener and when it turned it on and it heated up, I gave off a weird smell. Is it normal for a new straightener to give off a smell? Can I get rid of the odor?

Give it a chance, Tori - it could just be a preservative solution burning off. Let them heat for a few minutes and the smell may well disappear.
