how can i get my 53 plate sprinter to start after running out of diesel?

one of my trusty, responsible drivers forgot to put diesel in his van and thus ran out. i have since put diesel in but am getting no joy when i try to start it. im really tryin to avoid the cost of calling someone out so does anyone have any advice on what i can do. i know u have to bleed it some how to get the air out but wouldnt know what part to attempt to bleed, any help would be appreciated

thanks in advance!

i am assuming a 53 plate means 2003 if so dont try to open any injector pipes to bleed it as ur engine is a common rail there should be a low preassure pump in the tank never under any circumstance try to bleed it at the injectors turn ignition on remove inlet pipe off filter and see if u have diesel flow there if not ur tank pump may be siezed

HI Carl another Carl! OK i am not familiar with this engine but as diesel goes you have drawn air into the system. What you must firstly do is see if there is a bleed valve usually around the diesel filter somewhere. Take off the supply feed pipe from your pump at the injector side of engine. Keep pumping until neat diesel flows through once you have done this connect the pipe back up and switch on the glow plugs at the ignition until the glow light goes out now try and start. The vehicle should start but it might take a couple of attempts. What ever happens you have to get the air out of the system. I do hope i have helped you at least in the explanation part of things. Hope you get it to go.
