if you are in the AA or RAC call them out and they will perform the diagnostics and advise further.

you can analyse the codes yourself, but you will need an OBD2 monitor. For ford Ka the connection is in the passengers footwell (by passengers left foot). Obviously read the manual on your particular unit but for mine i just press the aquire button read the code compare to the look up tables with the unit and hey presto theres your fault. Then you can delete the code from the memory when ever you want. Just as an aside there are two types of codes P0's and P1 codes. P0 codes are generic for all codes and P1 codes are specific to you car. If its a P1 code the goont the internet and source result. An OBD is a handy little unit and all cars made after 1998 have to have an OBD2 connection. Last thing dont get caught out you need an OBD2 notnot an OBD1 unit. Hope this helped.

The engine management lamp comes on when a fault develops in the engine fuel, ignition or emission systems. At this stage its impossible to tell why, but a 'fault code' is stored in the car's on board computer, and this can be interrogated by any garage with suitable diagnostic equipment. They can then recommend a repair, and turn the light back off for you. Take a tip....if you let a fault continue there is a chance that the catalytic converter could be damaged - quite expensive.
