I have this trouble on my machine - I have had it quite a few times and each time it was a blocked pump filter. Hotpoint in their wisdom have put it inside the sump hose which is not the easiest of things to get to. If you call an engineer out, he will solve it within about 15mins including testing for leaks when finished.

If you want to have a go, unplug the machine, take the back plastic panel off, locate the sump hose (a black wide house dropping from underneath the drum leading to the pump in the right corner nearest to you looking from the back. tilt the machine forward and try and rest it on a cupboard etc. Place a washing up bowl underneath the hose to catch any water that has not emptied (this could be a LOT!) using some long nosed pliers, undoe the plastic clip clamping the top of the hose. The sump hose will now be detatched, inside it will be a small plastic basket which is the filter. Clear this of any debris (normally fluff, dog hairs, human hair or foreign objects). Re-assemble in reverse order. Ensure you clamp the hose back on tightly otherwise you will get a flood. check for leaks when running.

If you have dogs, get used to this procedure or buy a warranty!!!
