Best idea is not to mend these things - if the chain rivets come adrift then you could be in real danger. The chain teeth can be sharpened with a special round file but you'll find that garden shops will sharpen the chain by machine for a small cost. I keep a good chain on my saw, and always have a stand by to keep in rotation so I'm not caught out. As for care, all they need is a supply of the correct oil to keep them sweet - and avoid cutting through nails, etc!
