when my playstation did this to me i took it to bits so i could get to the lens, then i got ordinary video head cleaning fluid put some on a cotton wool bud then cleaned the lens, its worked for me twice and never failed.

I have been on to playstation lately and they will replace the whole ps2 for £55 they said it could be a problem with the driver, so replacing the laser as suggested by others might not work good luck
