how to replace main rear axle bushes on renault laguna II?

i've just bought a repair kit for replacing the two bushes at the front of the rear axle of my laguna II and have been told it will cost around £400 pound to have them fitted, is it possible to do them myself and if so, how?

the special tool is just a hydrolic puller so you can do the job in situe without takin the axle out and save time without it you have to use a long bolt and wahers or just drop the axle out and use the press to press them in and out the job is not that technical i have done loads of sets and can get the bushes for 18 pound pluss vat i have also done then on ford ka and ford fiesta i will charge maximum of £100 and no more including parts my number is 07827442356

ignore the haynes method defo.totally remove the beam as it takes a LOT of smacking to get the old bushes out without the proper tool and getting the new ones in is by no means easy, bonus part is the rear brakes are easily servicable now....which renault dealer did u go to??? 120??? no chance.lol.

Hi, I'm just doing mine now. £400 IS a rip off, as I'm sure I've seen/heard £200-250 is a more genuine ball-park figure (even from Renault dealers) if you do want to pay. I'm very fortunate, as I have access to a nice warm workshop (my work's) with quite a few tools and facilities (tea & coffee too!). Firstly, get the rear wheels off & get the back of the car jacked up as high as you can (but safely) to make access easy, then you won't have to take the axle off completley, just 'unship' it & pull it clear & support it on a jack/axle stands. Most of the bolts are accessible & easy to undo. The worst bit (as already mentioned on this site) is 'persuading' the bushes out of the axle - this IS going to take a bit of brute force, determination & perseverance! You'll be OK, if you have some mechanical aptitude & experience (I fix Harrier jump jets for a living, so it can't be that hard!!!). Try and get it into a decent (cosy) workshop first too, if you can. Good luck, but use this string for any advice/feedback if you need more help.

to D. Dalby,
ref rear bushes, you are being ripped off at £400,
I was qouted £120 labour from a renault dealer, bushes are £30 for a pair, ( must be fitted in pairs).
If your not mechanically minded dont attempt by your self. Ive been told by renault technician you dont even need special tool, just a drift and hammer.

quite a physically difficult job to do ,technically simple but a lot of brute force / strength required.
you will need two sets of axle stands as the axle beam needs to be completely remove to obtain sufficient access for the removal tool ,e'bay sells a kit with the tool included.
you can avoid disconnecting the brakes if you support the beam carefully ,take the haynes method with a pinch of salt!.
please be careful under the car as the beam is very, very heavy. when you lower it don,t drop it or you will destroy ,the discs and hoses.
a good quality trolley jack with good lift will help enormously.
