I stripped a table top. It was a dark mohogany. underneath I found a thin veneer of formica The stains I applied were for wood. They went light as I ragged it. What can I use to stain and match the rest of the wood. Please help!!

Are you should it's formica, mostly likely some plastic effect. In which case the only way to dark it would be to spray dark varnish on it (as it was finished before I assume). Problem with that is without knowing the exact varnish that should be used you could melt the surface and if not that the finish might crack or peel off when dry.
