peugeot 406 clutch?

clutch cable snapped on 1998 406[1.9 deisel]had it replaced but still does not work.Operating arm on bellhousing is in clutch down position but clutch itself is in running position.Arm is not stuck there I can manuelly pull it back, and it seems to be sprung the wrong way.has something come adrift in the operating mechanism when the cable snapped? When it went,it went with a bang.Any suggestions?

It sounds like what happened on my rover and the clutch fork has come of the release bearing
