Asko ASEA 1502 dishwasher - the door is stuck?

It appears that my neighbour banged the door shut rather forcefully and now I can't open it. I've got an Asko washing machine and there's a small slot next to the catch where you can insert a object to open the door: is there a similar device for this dishwasher? Various people have tried to open it but it seems firmly stuck and I don't want to force it.

Since I've now been asked for help with this twice, I figured I should post the "rest of the story"! Here it is, cut from an email...

As it turns out, the "new" part is considered correct, but fits differently. It only uses the first screw (closest to the door opening). The other screw has to bu put back in place as well, to prevent leaks.

Problem is, even after I did this, the door closed, latched, and then WOULDN'T OPEN!!!

After playing with this for a few weeks (much to my wife's dismay :-) I decided that the new part was not angled quite right for the older door latch ... BEWARE: this may or may not be your case! These are old machines, and mine could be "worn" differently than yours!!

In any case, I took the new part and using vice-grip plier and another plier, I gently straightened the FIRST very slight "bend" in the new piece -- the slight bend FARTHEST from the latch. Instead of the very slight "dip" that was formed in the new piece, I made it ALMOST straight. Then I re-installed the part and... IT WORKED! All I had to do after that was play a bit with the position of the part so that the door closes without any "play". (Since the new part only uses one screw, and it fits in a SLOT, there is some backward/forward play...)

The part is available from Asko or Repair Clinic: http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/SSPartDetail.aspx?PartID=764296&PPStack=1

On the picture at the link... The part I straightened is right where the metal TAB starts... Just above the first black line that intersects the part at the bottom.

Good luck!! Amazing to me that Asko doesn't know this....

we have the Asko 3152 it just arrived today but the door will not open. Found the little switch inside on the left inside the flap and have pressed that with the door latch-- it still will not open -- any suggestions?

we just had the same problem, and sure enough, the child safety luck was the culprit!! Thank you. Isn't the internet wonderful!

On the top left corner of the door is a child safety lock. Has this been moved to the locked position? If so, unlock it by sliding the lever...

I had the same problem with my Asko 1503. Unfortunately the answer is very frustrating. You can manage to open the door if you understand how it works. There is a horizontab metal "tab" that has a plastic "bulge" on the end. This tab enters a slot in the door and the bulge depresses the power switch. WHat happened to me (and others) is that the plastic has deteriorated and broken off. Now only the metal plate enters the door, and the door latch (which pushes up on the large plastic bulge) has nothing to press against, so the door remains locked. You can open it if you find a very stiff wire (heavy metal hangar?) bent in an L shape, the short end about 3 inches long. Insert this piece into the gap at the top of the door, just to the right of the center, with the L part facing your left. Once in, you should be able to twist it conterclockwise so that the L part is straight down. Then slide the part left until you feel it hit the metal tab, and (here's the hard part) rotate it clockwise to lift the tab. If you feel the tab lift, gently pull on the door. After many attempts, you should be able to lift the tab and open the door. Now the bad news: if the plastic part is broken off like mine was, the piece needs replacing. If you close the door it will lock again!!! Asko has now sent me the wrong part twice, and cannot locate the correct one! If you need more info, you can email me at hershel@belkinder.com
