Don't know if this helps.

I sometimes had a vibration problem with my V6 mondeo but only at a certain speed (+/- 5 mph).

When going faster or slower there was no problem.

This was simply down to tyre pressure difference in the 2 front tyres (even 1psi difference could do it).

All my mondeo alloy wheels are bad for holding tyre pressure, I've tried new valves, reseal tyres etc, but it didn't work.

I now keep checking the tyre pressures weekly - no more vibration problem.

I had the same terrible shaking at high speeds.
Noticed one of the tyre balancing weights had gone.
Once wheel was rebalanced then all vibration disappeared.

drive shaft is the problem - especially if it happens even when you put the clutch in at this speed

sounds like you might have a buckled wheel or a damaged tyre
to check this you will have to jack up each wheel and rotate
each wheel and check for buckling off wheel or tyre if everything is ok i would suggest getting your wheels balanced
good luck alex d
