line up the cam shaft mark (the one the pulley) in the vetical posision. the crank shaft timeing mark on the pulley with the timing mark on the engine. the fuel pump pulley mark to the far right horizontaly and slide on the belt with all these in the correct posisions. i assume that you know how to loosen/tighten the tensioner, and remove the belt and belt cover.ensure that the belt has no gaps and that it is a genuine Toyota belt. TAKE NO CHANCES.

set up the camshaft with both lobes on no1 cylinder pointing upwards.camshaft may have a slot at rear to lock it.check for opening in bellhousing rotate crankshaft looking for tdc mark on flywheel.be careful you dont want valves and pistons clashing. dont know about injection pump but suggest you set it up with fuel supply and disconnect no1 injector, rotate pump until no1 fires and see if you can find marks on housing. if you think you have set it up rotate engine at least 2 full crankhshaft turns with a socket on crank pulley nut. DO NOT USE STARTER MOTOR. IM AN ENGINEER WORKING ON TRUCKS AND BOAT ENGINES. BEST OF LUCK

keyway in crank facing straight up you'll see divets in the timing cover to the right of the cam gear and above the pump. the pump points up and the cam points to the right.the marks will line up with the grooves in the timing case. do not tension the belt, the spring on the idler pully will do it. it might seem loose but thats all it needs. if you over tighten the belt you will bend the idlers and they will run the belt forward and it will chop the belt out within 30000ks.
