I have a Garmin Nuvi 310 which now has trouble finding satellites?

I was driving one day when my Garmin stated satellite reception lost. It would then not work for several days. I have carried out a full reset but that has not cured it. Now if I leave it on all day it will occasionally find satellites, start to function, but will then soon lose the satellites again and stop working. Garmin want about £100-00 to repair or replace it and I can't afford it as I am disabled.

a flat cable can't be so hard to repair, but ...

I found out that I can use an external gps antenna, and that works perfectly ...

It is a Tomtom antenna ;-)

I have the same problem with my Garmin 310. It seems there is nothing we can do. To get it repair or replace is too expensive. I believe we have been buggered through the satellites some how. Well, save your money or buy another GPS again. I bought one set for my friend last year, it also developed this same problem of not detecting the satellites.

I emailed a chap who advertises on eBay and for £35 they will repair any 300 or 660 series nuvi with a three day turn around.
I had explained the problem I was having both to Garmin and to a few forums but none seemed to know what the problem could be, on the other had I emailed this guy and soon as I said the problem I had he said that it was a common problem and that I needed a new arial. They would also sort out the software as well included in the price.
If you go to eBay UK and search for Nuvi the link will come up.

Mine is getting sent off at the end of the week and will be back by Thurdsay at the latest.

Hi John, dont know the answer but my Nuvi 660 is doing exactly the same. Is this a common fault? It would be cheaper to buy a new one!

I also have a nuvi310 with the same problem. I opened it and found that the ribbon cable connecting the unit to the arial was broke right off.
DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN FIND REPLACEMENT PARTS?
