how ato fix a vacuum that smokes?

My vacuum smokes from where the belt is and has not suction what could be the problem?

Whatever the belt is trying to drive - the brush perhaps - is too tight to turn properly, hence the belt slipping rather than gripping. Have a look to see if there is anything jamming it.
