How to remove engine pulley?

I have a Craftsman rider with a blown 12.5 Techumseh. How do you remove the engine pulley from the shaft for installation on new engine.

You WILL need a puller. Remove the central bolt, and re-install WITHOUT any washers, about 8 turns into the thread in the crank. Use a puller on the pulley, bearing on the bolt. Pull until the pulley reaches the underside of the bolt head. Back off the bolt another 3 turns, and pull some more. Remove the puller and bolt. The pulley will now be almost off - should be able to pull it off by hand.

Mark; They make a puller that has two arms that grab both sides of your pully With a long theraded bolt in the middle of it. Most auto parts stores rent them for just a few bucks. So that way you won't have to purtches one for a one time use. Some peopel call them a gear puller others call them double arm pullers. Try that and see if that won't help you. Also if the pully has been in the motor for a long time you might try sprating it with ( liquid wrench) or WD-40 this will loosen the pully and make it easey to take off. Good luck sure hope this helps!
