Maytag DE512 will not start tumbling, but seems to heat?

Maytag DE 512 Series 7. It was making a weird rumble noise when drying, now will not start...or so I thought...noticed that it seems to heat but not tumble. Husband checked the belt on the drum and its fine...could it be switch? The door switch seems okay, when I turn the timer switch to the "timed dry" it does "tick". Also worried that if we do find the problem, will we be able to find parts...its 18 years old.

Same problem with Maytag DE512. I don't think it is the drum or the motor. I think it might be the exhaust fan which is between the motor and the front of the dryer. I can't get at it unless I move a lot of stuff as the dryer fits snugly inside a built in space. Any views on this?

I am having the same problem. I suspect it is the motor, since everything is working except the drum is not turning. I have a repairman coming today to take a look. I found a motor online for $144 at repairclinic.com. Cant wait to see what the repairman quotes me...

Since I have a similar dilemma, I thought I'd put it here. If someone answers your ?, could you address mine too?

I have a Monty Wards Dryer which was screeching off & on for a couple mos, until the drum stopped spinning. The motor sounds normal & it blows hot, but the drum doesn't budge. It's even hard to turn manually.

I read it could be "bearings"?
