I had the same problem and was advised to change the pollen filter which appears to have cured the problem.
The filter is located in a plastic box at the base of the windshield on the left hand side.
Remove the plastic grill at the base of the windshield. This is in two parts and you only have to remove the left hand piece. It is easily removed by just removing the screws. Once this plastic grill has been removed the black plastic box containing the filter is visible. The top is retained by two clips.Raise the lid and remove the filter. If you dont have a replacement dont worry as the car will still run !! but try to replace it as soon as you can.

there is a little recipient on the other side of the plastic that separates the hood and the windshield, every time it rains or wash the car, that little recipient trows the water on the side, like a house, that little canal where the water goes.......? same thing on the other side of that plastic on the car.put some sealant because is leaking water from that recipient, once you seal it well,no more problems.

just got daughter her first ka, also leaks in the rain,so now its parked with the front end of car pointing downhill to allow iside of car to dry out and to allow rain to drain any from scuttle area also heater only blows on one speed, found out that the leak is coming from the heating duct which is directly beneath the pollen filter/housing which is situated inside the scuttle panel(the area where the water washer bottle is)its highly probable the housing seal is broken or even the housing is cracked after having the pollen filter changed during its service. the heater resistor is also cooled by the same duct were the leak is, thats how the resistor shorted out.parts cost me and are readily available on ebay at a fraction of the cost of new, ie £2-8 for a pollen filter & housing.and heater resistor £4.99 hope this helps, mate.
