Lexmark X3480 Paper Jam?

My Lexmark X3480 is reporting a paper Jam when there isn't one. All I did was change the ink cartridge! First it wouldn't register that I'd closed the cover then when I picked it up to examine it, It reported a paper Jam! There isn't even any paper in it! Aaargh!
How do I sort it out using a diplomatic non violent solution?
I've tried to rationally tell it there is no paper Jam and shouting doesn't help.
Please hurry me a solution befor I have to resort to brute force!

Not an answer ...
My x3480 is 14 months old and I got the same error msg on replacing a cartridge.
Obvioulsy a common fault, see Brimar in answering the same problem from S Bell July 08. See Jeanne Mayo July 08. Also check out R Crisp Jan 08 and Noor Jan 08. And on eBay today, there is someone selling an x3480 for spares or repair as he gets the msg "cover open".

This should be repaired or replaced by lexmark as it is a DURABILITY problem. The warranty period is not relevant in this circumstance. They should act responsibly if something breaks within the 'reasonable' life of a printer. But what is the reasonable expected life of a computer printer? I'd say 2 to 3 years, and that's how I'm going to approach Lexmark. Watch this space.

No Joy, I ended up buying another printer. Annoying as they dont make that model anymore and I had a few ink cartridges left :(
The buggered printer is going to be launged into space as part of a payload of a ballistic missile. One day it may land on an far off planet and an alien civilisation can examine it and see what a bl**dy useless company Lexmark was, only being interested in squeezing the punter dry of cash by selling them printers that dont work and charging the earth for the cartridges that you can only get from PC world and sticking a chip on them so you can't refill them......
Can you tell I am annoyed?
