How can I fix my craftsman eager1 lawn mower?

I have a craftsman eager1 5.0 hp lawn mower model #917372480. It won't start but when I pull the string It tries to turn over. It also spits out oil through the little metal thing (sorry I don't know what it's called) that's on the side. Not the filter (I know what that is). Please give me some advise on fixing this. It still looks in good shape. It's just the oil or something. I don't know. Please Help!!! Thank you!

I have the same problem. I'm actually missing the o-ring on the bottom by the dipstick. Does anyone know what size it is?

If the oil is coming out near the bottom of the mower engine, at the bottom of the oil dip stick tube, it is because the tube is affixed to the engine with a screw, which may have come out. The tube is just jammed into a hole near the platform that covers the blades. It can be pulled out and there supposed to be rubber ring around the bottom to make an oil-tight fit. Don't run the engine without enough oil.

It would help if I knew where the oil is coming out. It sounds like the oil is coming out towards the top of the motor. If the oil is coming out of the muffler, your rings are worn or a valve is warn or stuck. It also could be a warn gasket. Check oil level to make sure it is not too high and that you have new oil in it.
