Where is the reverse light switch located in the ford focus manual trans?

My reverse lights are not working. the light bulbs are good. the all the wire connection in the trunk area is tie and in good condition. I think that maybe the switch is out but i do not know were is it located.

I have just replaced a faulty switch on a 2005 1.6 Focus Zetec, The ford dealer part cost £24.98, ordered from the registration number, and the job took 10 minutes. You need a 22mm spanner or adjustable and a tap with a hammer to break the grip of the thread sealant. The switch will unscrew easily. The new switch comes with thread lock already applied. There was no loss of oil from the gearbox.

This is for at least all 2000-2004 Focus models

Having a MTX-75 Transmission 2.0L ZETEC DOHC:
On the top side of the trans, 2 wire black plug, about straight down from the air intake on the bottom of the air box and slightly to the firewall, should be the only plug on the top side of the trans. Remove the air cleaner and battery with tray for easier access.

If it is a iB5 Transmission 2.0L SPI:
It is located on the front of the transaxle, next to the selector cable front cover. It is easier to access if you jack up the front left-hand side of the car.

If it's an auto I'm not sure.

Hi Tamas. You dont say what year your Focus is, but as a rule you will find it on the front of the gearbox, about half way down. That is to say on the passenger side facing front. It will have two wires going into a triangular plug. To test it, remove the plug, turn on the ignition, (dont start the engine) make sure the car is safe, hand brake on, even better, someone in the car able to apply the footbrake for your safety. get something like a piece of fuse wire or a paper clip and insert it into the plug. It may spark a little but won't give you a shock!! then check the reverse lights. if they are on then the switch is faulty and will require replacement, if they are not working, check your connection again at the plug to be sure.If they still dont work, a bit of investigation is in order, you may want to call an electrician. The switches are readily available at a Ford dealer, but be aware, they are made of aluminium and overtightening can snap it off!
