keep join as clean as clean otherwise it wont stick, before you fill with gease, glue gaiter together with it back from the cv joint, once glue has gone off properly, fill joint with grease and slide glued boot over cv joint and secure with clips
worked for me on saab a couple of years back

The easiest way to change a cv boot is by using a split boot. Take wheel off, cut old cv boot/gaiter off. Put split boot on & glue edges togeather, as instructed. I fitted one on a Rover & the repair lasted around 2 years, sailed through the mot. Take your time gluing the seal together though, glue a small amount at a time. Should take you around half an hour in total. If you decide to buy one from your local car parts dealer, ask for a split cv boot fitting kit, comes with everything you need.
