Thought i'd update this too - my dishwasher has again broken down - tried all of the below, again and its error coding within minutes of it turning on now, and making gurgling noises too - given up with it now, can't be doing with engineers to solve a, i think unsolvable problem - luckily my parents are moving house soon, and will have a spare dishwasher - so i think my ones off to the skip soon too!!!!!!

But, in the meantime, if anyone's got any remedy cures - please let me know.

An update: I tested the heating element using a multimeter and the instructions on the web and found it to be working fine. So then I tried flushing out with a hose but it was still giving me AL10 code about 30 seconds into the cycle. I did notice when I had the base off that there was a paper label behind the wiring loom that was scorched so after doing some more research i think there was a problem with the circuit board so I took it to the tip :-( I bought it second hand and just had the feeling I would be throwing good money after bad by getting an engineer out. Thanks for the help though!

Try this first - if you can get a hosepipe to the dishwasher, hold it tightly in the drain in the bottom of the dishwasher - and get someone to turn the hosepipe on, when it overflows turn the hosepipe off and keep on doing this for about 10 minutes - then try and run and empty dishwasher - my dad swears by this whenever he gets a problem with a dishwasher, he reckons most problems are caused by blockages in the pipes - worth a try, got nothing to lose!

I see - mine is erroring after about 30 seconds into the cycle so it looks like I might have to get a new heating element and give that a go... fingers crossed!

The error code was appearing at the last part of the cycle - the drying cycle - we ran the dishwasher 5-6 times, first couple of times, the error code came up, then for the last few times the cycle finished - hooray! So tried it with dishes and back to the old way, of dishwasher liquid, salt and rinse aid - it has error coded a couple of times on us since, but my hubby has tried all the programmes and it seems to be working ok now on the "eco" cycle ,

how did you manage to run the machine with no tablets or dishes if the error code kept appearing just after the cycle started?

Have tried exactly what Ethan1303 suggests and touch wood , the dishwasher is working again - thanks Bill W, you've just saved me a repair bill - much appreciated

Bill W - hope your machine works after this too!

Dawn - go to www.reviewcentre.com and read the comment by ethan1303. He claims it is a build up of cleaning chemical on the heat sensor caused by all in one tablets. He suggests running a few cycles without tablets and then reverting to standard tablets with salt and rinse aid added manually. I'm having the same problem as you and his advise sounds feasible so I intend to try it. Hope this helps.

Heating element is in base of dishwasher. Can get spares from hotpoint for about £40, You also need to get 2off 35-45mm jubilee clips to fit as you have to trash the originals to get the old one out. May also have to rewire connections as mine melted the connection when it went.
