crank sensor or diesel pump on my zafira 2.0 dti?

my car wouldnt start one morning so towed it into the garage where the said it was the fuel pump! ran a diagnostic on the car and basically it came up with the cranksensor code. but the garage said that there was only a cranksensor in the diesel pump. could you give me some feedback. this car is a 53 plate with only 65k on the clock. the pump should last a lot longer than this i would of thought!!!!!!!!!!!!!

the crank sensor reads the timing the diesel pump has its own timing govener they are seperate parts the crank sensor should be found in the engine block at the bottom reading the crank shaft.
