Control problem with central heating!?

I have quite an old central heating system with a hot water tank, with a Siemens RWB2E programmer. However lately I have noticed that even when the programmer is stopped, the central heating system is still carries on operating (ie you can hear the pump working and the gas fire is still on too). I have no idea where the problem is (could it be malfunctioning pump? or valve maybe? or the gas fire control?) and any suggestions will be highly appreciated!

Hi John, this problem could be a couple of things but i would advise you to get this checked out by someone who is qualified,
You may have a s or y plan system, i do not know without looking but if you have a fully pumped system either s or y you may have a faulty valve, s plan either a 2 port valve or Y a 3 port valve, this could be faulty,
you may have seen your valve/s near the boiler system set up
it has a square box being a motor on top of the valve/s depending of which system you have as i have said, but you can by pass this on most of them, there is a slider at one side just move this over to if it is stuck, if you find this fault being the head of the valve, tehn you may be able to replace the head and not the whole valve, depends on some models, let me know how you go and reply if you find anything, i maybe able to help more once you have tried this
