There are 3 plates with 3 bands between each - so its playe band plate band etc. the middle band disintegrated! - I tapped and prised it out without doing any damage to anything else - of course now the clutch wont engage the drive..i know that if i could adjust the cable that I could at least get the old beast to move on 2 plates - how do I adjust the cable or clutch ewithout doing irreparable damage

Try the ATCO site to find the spare part required. Buy a replacement part from a local dealer.

These are quite straight forward to fit.
