Removing backplate screws to replace a heater element?

I need to check and possibly replace the heater element in my fan assisted Bosch oven. The oven is 6 years only and I am having trouble with the circuit breaker tripping. This trips about once every 3 months. (I have changed the breaker) I want to check the resistance of the element (I was told to expect 20-25 ohms).
The problem I have got is the 6 fixing screws to hold the backplate to gain access have seen better days. Has anybody got a trade secret of how to clean the screwheads in situ?

WD40 (good spray and leave 20 - 30 min, also try one good solid tap on the screwdriver to 'free up' the threads), good fitting blade and, if all else fails - Screwfix Direct and get some screw extractors ( I got the bolt & screw set for fixing up old Lambrettas and they work mint) replace screws with a set from a PC shop for the casings of PC's, these have both screw and bolt option (if one goes you still have the option of the other)

Hope it helps

By the way... no one would happen to have a repair guide for a Hotpoint EW91 - Oven light comes on, fan starts going at it but no heat.. suspect element might have gone, or could it be the thermostat?

Cheers
