puma revving at 3000 all the time when being driven?

my wifes puma 1.7 over revs up to about 3000 when driving not sure if it is idle valve or a sensor any help would be greatly appreciated

unlikely to b ethe idle valve at 3000? but not impossible. I assume you mena the car starts and immediatley goes to 300 and stays there? even when driving? that is teh ford LIMP HOME mode, meaning it has found a fault and would normally refuse to run.in order to get you hom eit has defaulted to that mode ( limp) at 300 fixed fuel etc as a TEMPORARY measure to get you home. IT means oyu have to have the car looked at and all fault codes cleared ( main dealer-expensive) also they should pinpoint teh fault and fix it at same time. I should warn you the checks on the diagnostic unit are a real rip off .. leave an arm and a leg easily.
