how can i replace my carbon brush for my mixer (K5SS) kitchenaid mixer?

i have 2 pcs. brand new carbon brush for my mixer. what is the proper way to put the replacement parts.

If you still have the old ones you can look at them and see that there is one side that is worn and shiny. Look inside the hole with a flashlight and you will see one side of the motor that is also worn and silvery. Place the fittings in with the shiny side parallel to the silvery side. It looks like they go in at a curve with the shaft but they go up and down not sideways. I hope you can understand that and is not so confusing
