it turns on and spins, taken top cover off and i can see laser goes on, but it says, no data

if the laser is still going it doesn,t mean its ok
9 times out of 10 you will need a new laser

clean the laser but do not touch it, if you have already touched the laser you will probably need a new one if not use cleaning fluid on cotton bud & gently slid bud over the laser.& wait about five min's to let residue fluid to evapourate & rebuild your m/c.if this does not work you do need a new laser
