ROPER REFRIGERATOR?

MY ROPER REFRIGERATOR COMPRESSOR IS HOT TO THE TOUCH, DOES THE COMPRESSOR NEEDS REPLACING OR THE THERMOSTAT NEEDS REPLACING? THE FAN IN THE FREEZER SECTION STILL RUNS AND THE FREEZER REMAINS COLD, BUT THE BOTTOM HALF IS WARM.

my compressor has stopped working do you suggest that I replace it or purchase a new one?

ABOUT THE DEFROST ISSUE I TRY TO REMOVE THE REAR COVER IN THE FREEZER, BUT IT WOULD NOT COME OFF, DO I NEED TO REMOVE THE BOTTOM PANEL OF THE FREEZER IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE REAR COVER? THE MODEL NUMBER IS 1994 ROPER MODEL RT14EKRBW10, HOPES THIS HELPS.

Sorry, I overlooked the fact you said the freezer was still cold, this would indicate your compressor is operating... It seems you may have defrost issues, locate the evaporator coil inside the freezer compartment in the back, you will need to remove the rear cover inside the freezer... More than likely you will find this coil iced over blocking proper airflow.. Use a hair dryer to remove this ice, it will take awhile but at least get your fridge going again temporarily until your defrost issues are addressed.. Post your model number to this unit...

Is there a fan near the compressor?? Does it run or not run? Is the condenser coil clean? Do you sometimes hear the compressor 'click' as tho attempting to operate but can't? If the condenser fan is operating and the compressor is not, it may only need a new starting relay... Write down fridge model number and go to appliance parts store for new start components for this compressor... With unit unplugged follow wiring to the compressor and open junction box on the side of the compressor, you'll find the parts you need to replace... Plug unit back in if compressor starts you're back in cooling operation, if not then you need a new compressor or new fridge...
