My daughter had this same problem with her Taurus and it was antifreeze coming thru the defrost vents. She had to tear the whole dash apart in order to replace that big expensive part. I forget what it was called. The part when bad allows water to leak on passenger side floorbad.

Black smoke?? Blowing up onto the windscreen? Does it smell of diesel exhaust? You need to check that there isn't any way that air can be sucked from the engine bay into the inside of the car, and also have the exhaust system checked thoroughly - exhaust gases are poisonous. Presumably the smell isn't of burning electrics....?
