2004 Renault Scenic 1.9dci?

I've recently had a fault warning displayed on the dash saying "Check Injection" with the service light also lit, even though its no where near its next service,
I had it in at my local garage where they put it on there computer and it was showing a 01648 fault code for which they had no listing of this fault, so they reset the ECU but its not cured the problem.
Any ideas?
The car drives as normal.

It's not glow plug I've got same problem I Change them
Still doing it only in town driving low speed
Bought a diagnostic tool code read was p0100
Maf sensor I've cleaned it out but still comes on now
And again, maybe might have to buy new maf sensor

Joe, December 2014
Put a bottle of injector cleaner(diesel) in the tank, this has cleared the message on 3 occassions for me.

Colin, June 2012

Nearly 3 years later....... I've got a 54 plate scenic 1.9dci, having problems starting it, especially when facing up a hill, and also getting the "injection" warning light too, I'm a single mum and not car savvy, or indeed diesel savvy, loved my old style megane and starting to really dislike this one now, suggestions please, I don't want to be mugged off thanks x

did you go threw water ? mine did the same N/s front wheel is the inner wheel arch plastic at the back a that there is a engine management block it gets water in it if the seal is broken take off and dry it out i used a air line dried it and put a sealer around it to seal it mine as been fine since (lights came on ,wipers , car hazards and so on this fixed it )

My 1.4 petrol scenic recently broke down after displaying check injection, it then cut out with a low battery warning and check oil pressure, it then refused to start, the rac came and checked both battery and alternator which were fine, oil was at good level, and when we tried to start it revved up to maximum with no foot on the pedal and then cut out, then we tried to start again and the wipers came on at fast speed even though they were off!!! the rac report suggests an intermittent electrical fault still waiting for car to come back from garage who cant find anything????

theunluckiestdriverever, March 2011
The service light when illuminated, does not mean your car needs a service,It means there,s a fault, which can be a mass number of things i.e oil low, even though you have separate warning lights for this. My service light went out after a simple thing like putting air in my tyres, ! could not believe it.When the spanner signal
appears on your display, this indicates your service is due. Check the obvious things Ist, i.e oil,air filter,
tyer pressures, car lights, Its about illiminating one thing at a time. hope this helps

my car wont start when i press the start button and a warning light comes on saying check injection???

lisa, December 2010
Having had a 1.9dci now for 5 years i have had the injector warning come on three times. I think the following applies which each time has cured the problem. It appears the glow plugs are used all the while by teh engine to aid ignition. This caused wear to teh tips which eventually produces a higher resistance and stops teh plug from working. This can appear as lumpy acceleration, smoke and teh dash warning light. I replace the plugs now every service like you would a spark plug and the difference in performance and fuel effieciency is treamendous.

Hi, I have had a warning light on my display for an electrical fault! my brake lights are permantley on and do not go off. Please can you help

Kerryandneil, November 2010
got same problem with my 2006 scenic 1.9dci my local garage has diagnosed throttle potentiometer fault on pedal this problem will not cause any serious problem apart from loss of power to the engine car is booked in for next week cost approx £90,00 renault wanted £95.00 just to diagnose fault will let you know how I get on..

my parents currently own a renault scenic diesel. not sure what year, but the heater plugs on and electronic fault warning light has appeared, any ideas on what the problem maybe and is there a way of fixing it without taking to dealer?

eph, June 2010
My 2004 scenic 1.5 DCI has all of a sudden started smoking heavily from cold, engine feels really lumpy and the check ignition warning came on. I am leaving it in to a garage next week for pre mot check and service and I am worried that they are going to come back to me with some expensive quote. From reading all these posts I am hoping its just the glow plugs. Is it easy to replace them yourself?

Gary Mc, May 2010
Just to clarify - I own a Grand Scenic 1.9dci 2005.
The 'check injection' if the car otherwise drives normally will be a glowplug - the vast majority it's glow plug No3. I replaced with a Beru GN018 no problem.
Getting the black plastic cover off the engine however is extremely difficult. New plug costs £9-10.
The 'clear particle filter' is an exhaust emmision sensor.
A quick run out at speed (motorway) usually clears this message - these cars don't like chugging round town.

Hope this helps

Get heater plugs tested, i had same problem on my own car, light would go out once it had been run around a mile but only after i stopped and turned it off then re started it. My heater plugs were no good, changed them and no problems. even with plugs no good it will start perfect.

Hello Everyone,
I have had "Check Injection" or something like that was coming up on my 06 Grand Sceninc 109 DCI Prev. I was reading on the forums and a gentleman adviced me to take the car on a long Drive above 70mph speed. He said atleast approx 50 miles. I took me wife and me KID at around 9pm one night and told them we are going to McDonalds on M25 if we find one. I drove around 15-20 miles and message disappeared still i drove alltogether 40 miles b4 i come back. Obviously as promised took them to McDonalds somewhere dont know. Moral of the Story. Renault Grand Scenic 1.9 is not a city runner for short drives. You have to drive it atleast a month for a kind fast speed long drive. Since then i have seen light until my car went for insurance in June 09. I havent seen my car since then.

Zee, January 2010
Sim, if it cuts out soon after string like that it is often the injector pump. Mine did it due to something inside the pump shearing off. V expensive.

francis, December 2009
Had the 'Check ignition' warning for a week now, which affects throttle acceleration by about 50%. 2 days ago "check emissions" appeared on the dash also.

Talked to my mechanic who always services it - he is incredibly confident that it's a wiring fault and both are related by this problem. He's going to fix it this weekend for me. I'll let you all know how it goes...

Raymond, November 2009
My 2005 Scenic is displaying the message "Injection fault"
It started taking longer to turn over about 6 weeks ago, this went on to become it not starting 1st go, 2nd go, 3rd go ....
Also when driving and I accelerate, the message flashes up and the "stop" light comes on...

Anyone any ideas? Injecors? Clutch? Dodgy wiring?
Help please?Lo

LO, November 2009
I had the same problem with my scenic(showing injection fault) i tested all the glow plugs to find 1 showing a poor reading,i changed it and the warning went out and the car drove much better. However today i started the car and as i was driving off the car cut out and momentarily showed the same warning again, now it will not start at all!! I have tested all the glow plugs again and the are all reading similiar figures.

Any answers guys?
I am trying to sell this car at the moment and dont want to have to tow it to a main dealer.

Slim, October 2009
i have a 1.5 diesel scenic.when cold it starts like a tractor and you can smell fuel from the rear and see grey smoke.im hoping this is the glowplugs because of it being cold, but i have put power from battery to each plug and get a 'load' but have not put multimeter across. also had check ignition on display once but not again.

any idea fellas?????

how to remove engine out of renault megane 2002 1.9 dci

chris, August 2009
i had the same check inj on my 1.9 dci changed glow plug module but still there checked plugs 1 was giving a poor reading so i changed it that did the job and a year later still fine.i also have nuber 2 on the blower not working its caused by the fan resister witch is £99 from renault + fitting i bought it with the intention of doing it my self but to do so means removing the whole dash board to gain access to the part so im waiting for the blower to stop completely before i tackle it:)
oh and i also had the parking brake fault but after a good steam clean under the car it went.
right now im after i bit of help my rear passenger window lowerd itself the other day but not in the normal broken regulater way i found by unplugging the wires to the door and then plugging back in the window would rise by an inch so i repeated till it was closed but now it will not go down. switch is fine regulater is fine and moter seems ok any ideas wat this could be?

garreth willard, August 2009
My 2004 Renault GS 1.9 Dci is showing a 2 faults on the display - Check Parking Brake - (has now been replaced and fully working but local mechanic couldn't reset ECU) and now the Check INjection warning.

Took these to Renault who will charge £550 to put these right.

Any advice?

Big Lou, July 2009
Hi as previously said had same fault on my 1.5dci 04 scenic when check injection came on dash accelleration dipped ,took it to renault dealer quoted £2000 + ! .Ended taking it to village garage turned out to be fault on wiring behind back of engine quick £50 repair, also had egr valve cleaned out,not had the problem since

Gary, July 2009
have 54 plate same hand brake fault ended up wrecked car due to faulty computer on electronic hand brake came on at 50 mph please be very careful as it was my wife and children in the car

alan, June 2009
I've got 55 plate grand scenic and getting the 'check parking brake' error. Had it into renault dealer they reset it but have said error keeps recurring. They've quoted £700+ to replace computer. Seems extrortionate and ridiculous (only 25000 miles on clock). Any ideas what to do?

Kev, June 2009
Darren M. Your parking brake message is probably due to a low battery. Is the glove box fitting poor, meaning that the light is always on? Sort this out, get the message reset, and all should be well. An independent garage with a CLIP computer should reset it for a tenner or so. A wodge of gaffer tape to push the light switch off should do the trick.

Richie, June 2009
On my 53 plate scenic I have just had a fault come on the dash saying 'parking brake fault' check parking brake'. I have had it checked and it is fine, the parking brake works as it should. Has anybody got any idea what it could be?????????

Darren M, June 2009
Change the glow plugs thats the problem ,one or more has broken ,£25-£40 pound from a auto-parts store.I know had the same problem ,and have now sorted it

francis, May 2009
I have a 2004 1.9dci scenic and the 'check injection' message has been on for a month or so. I took it to a local garage today and they said that it is probably the fuel system and that it is a common problem with scenics. He reckons it will be around £2000k to fix. Does anyone know anything about this, is it true or should I be looking for a second opinion.

Peter B, March 2009
I rebuild engines for my living and have the same problem. I have fixed this before by changing the glow plug relay £45 from renault fits under battery tray.
I have just changed on this one and it has not fixed it so it must show this message for many reasons. will post again when this one is fixed.

Hi i also have a dci 1.9 and getting same warning light as everyone else check injectors and loss of power when this comes on.It has been on for 3days now but today i have got a service and warning light saying check emissions anyone with any ideas.Does anyone also have any problems with the fan as mine has stopped working on number 1and 2 and i have also had problems with window regulators this is my first renault and i have only had 9 months but its giving me lots of problems someone please help thanks

lisa, February 2009
To add to the above comment. Check the resistance between the top of the glow plug & the engine block. A good plug will read about 1 ohm. You will have to remove the engine cover, which I couldn't manage without breaking it. You will also require deep sockets, in order to change the glow plugs yourself. Most tool kits don't have them as standard. The two plugs on the left can be very awkward to access, so be prepared for some hassle. I had one faulty plug but decided to change all four. The fault message seemed to reset itself once the job was complete. With hindsight, I might have been tempted to get a price for a mechanic to replace just the plugs. However, I would probably be looking at about £50 for an hours labour. Which would still be enough of an incentive to do the job myself.

albimac, February 2009
Its the glow plug module, located above the nearside wheel arch. Not usually the glow plugs at fault.

Hi everyone. I have had the same message "check injection" just appeared on the display. where are the glow plugs and how do i test or change them?

tony, September 2008
if any 1 has any problems with injection fault on your cars its 100% sure its the glow plugs most garages wont tell you this as they want to make money by saying it could be a matter of things if you can change the glow plugs diy save you £££ but dont forget to reset your fault on your ecu unit if you have the tool

brian bell, August 2008
i have a 1.9 dci renault i have a injection fault its not the first time its happened went to renault garage they had changed all four glow plugs sorted the problem but a month later same thing happened iv driven car for a couple of months what it is i want to change them my self but i read up it has to go to a main dealer so they can put the code in ecu unit to use glow plugs is this true 1 more thing weres the test plug in the car my car is a 54 plate renault scenic thanks alot

brian bell, August 2008
My scenic has now developed this prob only on a cold engine though. It is booked in to the garage. Have you had any answers?

Tiffany Smith, June 2008
Hi Kev' Sorry your having trouble with your dci. I too have got the same problem, same code, same answer but £350 poorer. Any chance you've found the answer?

Darren, June 2008
As John said it turned out to be a glow plug gone down on mine even though it started fine, located the faulty one with a multi meter and changed it and it cured the fault all for £7.88.

Thanks John

Kev.

Kev, March 2008
Hi There,
my version has a card and push button to start, no key
I found that if you scroll to the message service due in -----miles hold the trip meter button for about 15/20 seconds it will change to next service in 18000 miles, switch off the engine & remove the ignition card, the next time you start the warnings are gone, happy day's, or thats what I thought as the next time you stop and start the car the warning returns, has anyone else found this?

Malc, March 2008
Just having the same problem this week, no one seems to be able to read the code and my nearest dealer is 53 miles away, i'm going to do a test on the glows tommorow.....

Eurwyn, March 2008
Hi, I have the same problem and had the car serviced last week, changed filter, etc but did not fix the problem. Service was £150.00, mechanic took it for diagnosis but could not find fault(?) charged another £50.00 for it.
Have you got any futrher with yours...I am trying to keep cost down. Ta

cv, February 2008
Thanks John

Would it be worth buying a glow plug and replacing them one by one until it hopefully cures the fault warning?

Its the first Diesel I've ever had in 25 years driving so its all a bit new to me.

Kev, February 2008
Usually on these its a glowplug fault - although they are such good starters you may not even notice. To test them, remove the large supply cable and check each one for resistance - look for about 1 ohm only.
