This happened to me just last night. It turned out the belt had slipped off the drum. I just unscrewed the back panel (after unplugging the machine of course!) and the belt was hanging loose. It was a simple matter to thread it back round the drum and small wheel at the bottom of the machine. Get it round the small wheel first and then rotate the larger one slowly while pushing the belt onto it. I should think that if the belt had broken it would be reasonably inexpensive to replace. I was then able to spin my previously unspun laundry. Of course, I don't know why the belt came off and if it's about to do it again.
