I would like to know what the problem is with my dyson dc14 hepa filter vac?

I have just purchased a pre-used dyson dc14 (the allergy one) and when I plugged it in I noticed a very very strong rubber-ish burning smell and then after about 30seconds the vaccuum cut itself off and will not now come back on? Please help?

Lisa it sounds like the belt has jammed or you have a problem with the motor. You will have to leave it unplugged for a while before the thermal cut-out on the motor will reset itself. I would first check to see if the brush roller moves by hand;if it doesn't then you need to find out why. The other possibilty is that the motor has got very hot and is starting to melt the rubber around the motor itself. If this is the case then the motor may need replacing. You will also need to check the plug fuse if it still won't switch on.
