every time i boot up my pc i have to reset the clock.
this problem prevents me receiving anti virus updates.
my o/s is windows xp pro. service pack 2.
is it the battery on the motherboard. ?

Yes it can be the Battery quite often soldered in, time goes first then the date then the last to go is the Bios setup so get battery changed, if the time has only just started going out you will have quite a few months at least so do not rush out today
