Help With Rings on my Tricity Bendix Fanfare Cooker?

My two back rings, one small and one large will only work on full power. If I turn them down to number one the small ring stays high and occasionally the larger ring will turn right down but turn it up to 3 and it goes on full power again.
What could be the problem please and how do I fix it?

I guess you have a problem with the rheostat switches...they don't last for ever but they are easy to replace. Normally the hob is disconnected then completely lifted out of its housing. Once turned over the switches are beneath a steel cover. Can't say if this will be an economical repair though!
