Put washine machine on in morning, nornmal colour wash. Came home from work and its still washing, but not adding any water and not spining. Have tried switching off from mains and leaving it for a while, but after switching machine back on it will still contiue wash but not going through its cycle..

Sounds like your heater has failed.
To reset the program press and hold the start button this is the only way to cancel the program turning it off and unplugging it will not reset it.
