Fiat Punto clutch?

I'm replacing my Fiat Punto clutch, with the "help" of a Haynes manual. The manual says, "9. Pull out the clip then disconnect the gear engagement cable from the control lever and release the cable from the mounting bracket. See illustration." My question is, "How?" I've removed the clip but can't see how the cable releases from the lever on the gearbox. The illustration just shows the cable with a hand holding it. There's no clue as to how to release it.

Still now in 2014 no info on how to undo the ball and socket joint. I figure I just leave it attached and undo the cable at the Gear lever instead.
Those Spanish car makers ! Evolution came late to rational assembly.

lever off the ball and socket joint from the gearbox. Just done mine BUT now having issues with the selection of gears 1,3,5 - all liked to the lower linkage movement - take care not to move them around too much once theyre off!
