What is wrong with my Gilera dna?

My Gilera dna 2001 wont start everything work lights horn etc but when i press electric start it just clicks

clicking usually just means your battery is flat , or the starter pinion is stuck

easiest thing , remove the side cover , wiggle out the pinion

does the starter motor spin now ? yes no,

clean the pinion by twisting it to extend it , clean and regrease
and reassemble
