The Gas in odourless and would not be the cause of any smells, clean the interior with warm water with bicarbonate of soda added pour a small amount of the solution into the defrost channel (the drain hole at the back of the fridge) the odour is normally caused by bacteria building up from stale food deposits being absorbed into the plastic liner.
