trouble starting a jcb m25 strimmer?

I can not start my jcb m25 petrol strimmer.
How do i find out the correct gap for the spark pug?
What else might be the cause of it not starting?

too much oil can be a problem as I discovered. The ratio of petrol:oil should be 40:1. Too much oil will foul the spark plug causing it to misfire. Change the plug for a new one and see if that helps.

Set the plug gap to 25 thou or thereabouts....check that it is actually sparking. If it is, press the fuel prime bulb a few times (if there is one), then with full choke and full throttle, pull the recoil starter briskly until the engine 'pops', then open the choke, full throttle and try again. This is the normal procedure for starting 2 stroke engines.
