I am trying to repair a bad oil leak on my craftsman eager-1 model 917,377391 with power gear drive. The oil is spewing from the base of the mower as soon as I start it and pools up. I think it is the oil seal.

I have the same model (917.377391) and same problem: the oil pools under the engine (but the oil gets absorbed by grass clippings under there). I see oil pooling on the deck too, and I never knew where it was coming from. This began within the first year after I bought it (Craftsman 6.75 HP, 22" rear bag, power propelled, rotary lawn mower).

I looked at Craftsman.com, for diagram and illustrations ... but the website is "down for maintenance".
