when i turn the key in my escort the electric fuel pump doesnt kick in does that mean i need a new one. i have put a diffrent relay in but didnt make any diffrence.
I have the same model car and have just got home after calling the AA. Got the car going by hitting the fuel tank and said fuel pump had jammed shut. Apparently problem will get worse and worse. I was advised not to drive and get it to garage to get new pump. We did check the shut off switch.

I've got exactly the same problem, engine just cut whilst driving - no petrol being pumped. Checked fuse, fuel cut-off switch, relay. Dropping the tank to replace the pump tomorrow.
How did you fix yours?

the terminals at the pump could b corroded if its no tht it could b a broken or corroded wire bthts fedin the pump

Hi Steven, have you checked the trip switch in the side trim by drivers side?
