does my alternater need replacing?

i have noticed that if too many electrical items, i.e heater ,stereo,lights are on my car runs quite sluggish.
it is a 1997 astra 1.6

Hi Gav, check the voltage at the battery with the engine running it should be 14+/-.5v if its lower then the alternator is faulty
