hi, i have an n reg 95 escort and when i change down to third gear it crunches and pops out if i dont hold it in. its ok (sometimes) changing up gear and if i am at a slower speed, but generally its not. will i need a new gearbox? or is it selector or bearing ? please advise. thanks

It would be easier to replace the box and a lot less hassle pick up a 5 speed box of ebay for £40
