how do i tighten alternator belt on diesel mondeo lx?

How do I tighten alternator belt on my x reg diesel mondeo?
Can I get to it from underneath because the top is too cluttered with air con unit etc. Or have I got to take aircon off to get to it?
It is the endura 1800 engine LX model.

access thru offside wheel arch. remove plastic shields.alternator then clearly accessible - have to remove wheel first !
