How can I get the engine to stop??

I have a Renault 19 Diesel 1996 reg & the engine keeps running after I have turned off the ignition how do I fix this??

check the shut down solonoid near the the fuel injection pump

is the ignition barrel faulty if so get another. it sounds like it to me. hope this is of some help.
