Mountfield mower runs unevenly with smoky exhaust?

My Mountfield has a Honda GCV135 petrol engine and runs unevenly with a smoky exhaust and the plug becomes covered in carbon in a matter of minutes. I think it may be something to do with the fuel mixture. Any suggestions? How do I adjust the mix, idling speed so that it runs smoother and without sooty plugs? Thanks, Gerard

Sounds like a carb problem that I had, the diaphragm needed replacing it had a small hole in it.
