How can I fix my KitchenAid mixer, model KSM90?

Recently, I was mixing dough in my KitchenAid mixer, model number KSM90 and the dough was to big for the mixer to handle. The motor kept running but the attachment and the part the attachment attaches to stopped moving. Now, whenever I turn the speed lever to any speed, the motor can be heard running but nothing moves.

I have the same problem. Mine is the professional series lift mixer that was bought for me exactly 366 (notice 1 day AFTER factory warranty is up) days before it broke. Mine will spin until ANYTHING (including water LOL) is put into the bowl to mix. Called KA, they were absolutely no help! Told me I should've purchased the extended warranty. Well, I did fill out the information for that and sent it in (they never received it) but my main complaint is after spending over $400 for a machine, you would think they would have a longer life then only 365 days! They definately don't make them like they use to. My grandmothers KA is still going strong and that woman makes bread daily!

You more than likely broke the nylon worm gear in your mixer. It is designed to break instead of burning up the motor. I did the exact same thing. It is a pain to replace, but you can do it with some simple household tools.
